NSW: Emirates warns of Sydney Airport frustrations
Emirates Airline used the launch of its new trans-Tasman services today as a platformto attack Sydney Airport's operating curfew.
The carrier's vice-chairman and group president, MAURICE FLANAGAN called for a secondairport to be built as a matter of urgency.
ABC Radio reports Mr FLANAGAN says the curfew and flight restrictions at Sydney Airportdiscourage airlines from directing more flights to Australia's busiest international gateway.
Mr Flanagan's comments came 24 hours after the Sydney Airport Corporation predictedpassenger numbers at Sydney will triple to 68.3 million by 2023/24.
Labor leader SIMON CREAN'S has said that the opposition has abandoned its support fora second airport to be built at Badgerys Creek.
Opposition treasury spokesman MARK LATHAM today says Labor remains strongly committedto building a second airport to serve Sydney elsewhere.
